One of the least pleasant parts of the traditional process for getting crowns, veneers, implants, braces, retainers, dentures, and more is that dental putty for taking impressions of your teeth. Thanks to cutting-edge dental technology, that putty is now a thing of the past.

What Is an Intraoral Scanner?

Most people are unfamiliar with this type of scanning as it is so new, but it is quick and easy for the patient and gives the dentist more thorough and accurate information for treatment than the putty molds could. It also cuts down on the time it takes our office to complete your treatment, sometimes as dramatically as from weeks to just hours.

More Accurate Impressions for Retainers and Clear Aligners

By using this scanner, we are able to make the most accurate molds for your retainers and clear aligners possible. Traditional impressions don’t perfectly hold the shape of your teeth because they have to be pulled off and manipulated. A 3D scan of your mouth, on the other hand, is much more precise.

Clear Aligners for a Straighter Smile

When you choose clear aligners for your treatment, you will receive a series of soft plastic aligners that fit perfectly over your teeth to gradually straighten your smile. There are no metal wires or brackets to irritate your mouth! You can remove your aligners during your at-home oral hygiene routines and while eating your favorite meals. Unlike traditional braces, brushing and flossing are not complicated, and you don’t have to give up any of the foods you love.

Retainers Matter

The reason retention after braces is so crucial is that the supporting structures around our teeth aren’t immediately used to their new position when the braces come off. The jaw bone and periodontal ligament need time to finish adjusting. Patients who don’t bother to wear their retainers might end up needing braces again before long. Nobody wants that to happen.

Does iTero Use Radiation?

Unlike certain types of medical scanning equipment, including dental X-rays, the scanner does not have to expose the patient to any radiation in order to do its job. As small as the risk is from the levels of exposure involved with other scanning equipment, with our scanner, you don’t have to worry at all about any risks outweighing the benefits.
