All About Liverpool, NY

Like many places in the northeast, Liverpool is named after a city in England. Today, the village has a population of under 2,500 and is a suburb of Syracuse. The area was originally inhabited by the Iroquois people beginning in the 1500s. Canadian French Jesuits set up missions there, including Sainte Marie among the Iroquois on Onondaga Lake, but the mission wasn’t permanent.

After the Erie and Oswego Canals were built, the area drew in Irish canal workers, Yankee settlers, and eventually German immigrants. Before it was called Liverpool, the village was known as “Little Ireland.” Liverpool is home to the Lucius Gleason House and Liverpool Cemetary, both of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Early industry in Liverpool include salt works and a sawmill in the 19th century. The village played an important role in the Onondaga Lake salt industry. In 1830, the village was finally incorporated and the name was changed from Little Ireland to Liverpool, probably because the city it’s named after in England is also a major salt producer.

Raineri and DiCosimo Orthodontics Liverpool Location

We love serving the people of Liverpool and helping them achieve their properly aligned smile goals. Whether that means traditional metal braces to treat a complex orthodontic problem or low-profile clear aligners to treat something simpler. We also help patients who are in the retention phase of their treatment, and we provide emergency orthodontic treatment for anyone who has had sudden trouble with their appliance that requires an expert hand to fix.

If you aren’t sure what qualifies as an orthodontic emergency, it includes problems like a loose band or bracket or a loose wire if you can’t put it back in place or clip it. If a wire is poking, you can most likely cover it with wax or clip it yourself, and general soreness can be treated with a warm saltwater rinse and over-the-counter pain medication. Check this map if you need directions to our Liverpool location, or you can learn more about us on our business page.
